River rafting Chorukh
The Most powerful Turkish river. Coruh flows over old highland, either contracting in narrow canyons or widening in vast areas. Coruh attracts adventure travelers from all overs the world being an ideal place for rafting. Flight Istanbul – Erzurum, city, visited by Pushkin. Moving to province İspir, village Chamlikaya. The village, which history goes hand-in-hand with the river, saturated with the atmosphere of mountain East. Pitching tent camp. Having dinner, overnight.
After having breakfast, local attendants provide safety-on-water training. Listen attentively! After that we start! Passing rapids “Frog” and “French hole” – categories 3 and 4 respectively. Rafting length this day is 40 km, down to village Tikkale. Having dinner over the fire. Night at the tent camp on the riverside.
Breakfast. Rafting the Barhal River (18 km), one of the Coruh tributaries. This is one of the most interesting and difficult routes in the region. Fishing after lunch. Pitching tent camp, having dinner.
Having dinner and again going for adrenalin. Today the rafting is taking place in canyon Yusufeli (place for rafting number 1 in the world). This is truly 8 kilometers of extreme. The rapids categories are 4 - 5. Passing rapids “Number 3”, “House”, “Sculpture” and grand “King-Kong”. Night at the tent camp.
Moving to Erzurum airport. We have to make several stops for sightseeing. Ancient Armenian church Oşvank, built in the early Middle Ages from the stones of local mountains and decorated with antique frescoes. We have to admire Tortum waterfall – the fourth biggest in the world. Departure to Istanbul.
Rafting season: the best time for Coruh rafting is June, July, August, first half September.
